Lucy’s Best Day Ever
Yesterday was Lucy’s 8th birthday. When she woke up, we all hopped into her bed. She looked at us and said, “I don’t feel 8!” We laughed and told her that is a pretty common feeling, NOT feeling a year older on your birthday. She got ready for school, sporting her new High School Musical t-shirt, she brushed her teeth with her new High School Musical toothbrush and then opened her present, High School Musical Barbies.
She had a great day at school and thankfully I did remember to drop off donuts to her class. That was a close one!
After school we asked her where she would like to have her birthday dinner. She wanted California Pizza Kitchen. We drove downtown to CPK and found a parking spot right in front. (Which was miraculous) As Aaron parked I looked out my window and noticed a small group of people standing less than 5 feet from my car door. First I recognized Kenny Ortega the director of High School Musical! “NO WAY!! That’s Kenny Ortega!!!” I shouted to Lucy and signed to Leah. Then I realized that Vanessa AKA Gabriella and Zac Efron AKA Troy were standing with him!!! Zac had a hat on and Vanessa had BIG sunglasses, you could tell they were trying NOT to be recognized. “Oh my gosh!! Lucy look it’s Zac and Vanessa!!!!” I threw open my door, grabbed Lucy and walked the 4 steps to stand in front of them. “I am sorry to bother you, but it’s her birthday today and she’s even wearing her HSM t-shirt and got HSM barbies as her gift can we just say Hi?!!!” They said, “Happy Birthday!” and Zac asked Lucy to give him “5″. She did. Kenny started waving at Leah, letting her know it was okay to come out of the car. Leah wheeled forward in her heeleys, white as a ghost with her jaw to the ground. “ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME!!!”, she all but screamed. Zac said, “I like your heeleys!”
We let them know how much we love HSM and are excited for the next one. (They shoot here in Salt Lake City). And you may have recognized “Coach Bolton” in our Signing Time DVD “Family Feelings and Fun”.
Then they quickly made their way through the mall before too large of a crowd formed. we stood their stunned. I realized my legs were shaking. LOL. Lucy looked at us and said, “This is the Best Day Ever!” We had to agree.
After lunch we ran into Kenny again. He stopped Lucy and was talking to her. He had his little Yorkie with him and told Lucy that he loves her name, and when he gets another Yorkie, he is going to name it Lucy.
When I told my sisters what had happened they all asked, “How did you pull that off?” I just laughed, “Oh what we won’t do for a birthday around here!”
We didn’t get pictures with them, but I will be posting Lucy’s afterglow picture when we got to the restaurant.
Here it is!

To above comment: They’ll be going to Mars.
I wish that was my birthday!
We celebrated my birthday today in English class (even though it’s not until the 25th). In my English class, you get to pick what kind of birthday song you want (underwater, dueling banjos(<?), etc.). I asked for sign language. My best friend was the only one who knew and wanted to teach it. She taught them all how to sign it. She was the only one in class to fingerspell my name(and she’s very fast–unlike me). It was awesome. It would have been cooler if the HSM people were there/doing it.
That’s the best birthday ever, Lucy!

What an exciting birthday Lucy!!!! I’m so happy for you. I have to tell you though, as much as my kids love HSM, they still love Signing Time more. When we met your mom, Rachel, for the 1st time in Fargo, ND (we were blessed enough to see her twice) we felt EXACTLY the way your mom described your meeting Zac and Vanessa. We all had to fight back our tears when we saw your mom. On the way home and for days later we all said that was our BEST day ever. Now if we could only meet Leah and Lucy (and my boys say Alex too) in person someday that would be awesome.
Steph (Mom to 5 boys including almost 3 year old Joey who is close to 80 signs…Yippee!)

LOL A couple of my sisters said, “That is how people feel when they meet you Rachel!” I said, “Oh puh-lease!” Come to think of it, I have noticed some pretty shaky cameras when you guys are taking pictures with us
And just like I ran up to the HSM cast, feel free to run up to us when you see us!

Cute! Amazing odds! That reaction WOULD be typical of my four year old son’s reaction to seeing YOU, LEAH or ALEX out on the street. (Too bad we don’t live in Utah.) They are his heroes right now! (He likes to comb his hair “like Alex’s” hair.) What better role models…

Lucy, what a great birthday present! It’s even better that you were sporting your HSM t-shirt. You even got to high 5 Zac, that had to be the best birthday ever. I’m glad it was terrific.

You will NEVER be able to top that one. Lauren still talks about seeing you at Shriners. Lucy’s bday was all about HSM – Lauren’s bday will be all about ST.

What a funny coincidence that this is the top post on your blog. I am feeling exactly that starstruck this morning and all day after receiving your comment on *my* blog. When I saw the email with a comment from Rachel Coleman I about fell out of my chair. Then when I read it I could not believe my eyes! My daughter loves Signing Time (especially Leah) with a passion that is unmatched anywhere else in her life. Email me when/if you get a chance at additionproblems [at] gmail [dot] com and I can tell you more about my daughter and the Prizey thing. I wish she were old enough to understand what a blog comment is… she’d flip!
