Meet Fireese
With the recent release of Baby Signing Time 3 & 4, I wanted to introduce you to one of our incredible signers and her exceptional mother who we were fortunate enough to have involved.
You may not know her by name, but Fireese Berg may be one of the most famous signing babies on the internet!
Her mother Laura Berg posted a great video clip on YouTube of 1 year-old Fireese signing, which has to date garnered over half a million views!
I saw the video almost a year ago and thought, “I wonder if they know about Signing Time?”
I started to do a little research and found out that Laura is not only great at marketing, but she is the founder of My Smart Hands. My Smart Hands offers baby sign language classes in the US, Canada and Europe and can even train parents, like YOU to become baby sign language instructors.
As we began the massive process of auditioning children ages 3 and under for the upcoming Baby Signing Time shoot, I received an email from Laura. She was so cute, she prefaced it by saying that I probably had NO idea who she was or who her daughter was, but she had received SO many emails through youtube from “Fireese Fans” suggesting she audition that she felt compelled to write.
I called Laura on the phone and confessed that I too am a Fireese Fan! We invited them out for the shoot, without an audition… all you have to do is watch that youtube video to know, that Fireese is a little girl who can REALLY sign!
You will see Fireese signing away throughout both episodes of Baby Signing Time 3 “A New Day” & 4 “Let’s Be Friends”. I was able to be on set during some of her filming and her expressions and signs were just fabulous!

While the Berg’s were here we went to lunch and talked quite a bit. It was really clear to me that Laura is a bright, educated professional who really cares about making a difference in the lives of families. It was also clear to me that Laura is the type of gal I could easily be friends with!
We filmed an interview with Laura and had anticipated adding it as a special feature on Baby Signing Time Volume 4. I am disappointed that the piece was not completed in time for our release deadline. I am sure Fireese Fans were disappointed too. It is still being produced, editors are working on it right now and I can’t wait to share it with all of you in the future.
So, I won’t wait

Because Laura was willing to share Fireese’s signing experience through youtube, she has helped countless families see that not only is it possible for one-year old Fireese to express herself through sign, it is possible for all children, everywhere.

Fireese is quite a little signer. I liked the you tube video where her mom showed how quickly a child picks up on signing and that you don’t have to limit their sign vocabulary any more than their spoken vocabulary. Two powerhouse advocates for giving children of all ages another way to communicate<—–I call that AWESOME!!!

Love it! I saw that youtube video months ago while watching other signing videos. I would love my family members, who believe Joey is non-verbal because of signing, to see that. I don’t think they believe me when I tell them Down syndrome can delay speech. Anyway, I’m just sooooooo thankful for signing or Joey would be in his own little world unable to communicate. He knows over 100 signs but only uses certain ones on his own without being prompted. So yesterday while driving home in the rain he gets my attention by grunting he excitedly signs RAIN. I was so proud of him and happy for HIM that he could communicate. I am probably not making any sense but my heart just swells when I see him sign new words that I didn’t even teach him. I LOVE LOVE LOVE ST!

I love Fireese and Laura Berg! I made a playlist of Fireese on YouTube and my daughter loved to watch them. Of course, I also had my Signing Time play list, too! Now, we can watch Baby Signing Time and Fireese at the same time!
Laura is incredibly knowledgeable and very willing to take the time to answer questions. Her Facebook group provided a place for me to connect with other signing parents when I felt alone.

Joeysmom: Steph, I feel the same way. Lucy used to bust out signs that we KNEW she had learned from Signing Time, it always surprised me, even though I KNOW it works LOL – I found myself saying, “Wow! It STILL works!”

I saw that video on You Tube a while back and was so impressed! I know first hand that signing works but I never stop being amazed at how sharp kids really are. My daughter was a signing sponge. My son is now 9 months old and still gives us that tilted-head-you’re-silly look when we sign with him. I know any minute he’ll have a sign-xplosion.

Laura and Fireese are wonderful! We first met them both when they took two WeeHands (www.weehands.com) classes in Toronto in 2005 and 2006…Fireese was so little then! I’m so happy and proud that Fireese is a WeeHands Signing Babies I and II grad!

I, as well, use a pit-bull who may be the most adoring animal I have ever owned. Soon, a new dog breed will appear together for your media to blast, because they have carried out rotties and dobies in prior many years. Unfortunate that media sensationalism breeds much inaccurate information.
