Babies, Buddy Walks and Blogs

It’s that time of year again… the time of year when my siblings and friends have a ton of babies all within weeks of each other! I know. Weird! It’s also the time of year called “fall” and that means I am galavanting around the country with colors on my fingers and singing and signing with some of our most devout Signing Time Fans… because it’s ALSO the time of year for Down syndrome awareness walks!

WAIT!!! — remember what happened last time everyone I knew was going into labor and I was performing at Buddy Walks?

I remember.
It was 2008.

It started with Baby Asher then came Baby Ryan and even Baby Carter came along too! (But he was born in Georgia… SO far away from me)

The grande finale was Rachel & Natalie’s Excellent Adventure in the midst of all of that I went to Oklahoma, Oregon, and Denver… and then… then Leah’s hat caught on fire.

Oops!

Well, that was 2008.
…And this is 2010

My sister Sarah had Baby Oslo

weeks later my sister-in-law Danielly had Baby Zoey.

A week later my sister-in-law Katie had Baby Brody. (They are in Las Vegas, so I don’t have a photo of Lucy holding him… YET.)

And for the GRAND FINALE… my sister Emilie, yes THE Emilie, had a baby girl on September 20th!!! (a little girl who is yet to be named, but big deal, they didn’t name Alex for three weeks and he turned out all right)

I’m happy to report that Baby Girl Brown attended her first Signing Time Owner’s Meeting yesterday. I held her while Emilie and I held the meeting with others via Skype. Being the boss is boss!

I was able to be at all of the births I was scheduled to be at… and likewise I was not at the births I was not expected to be at… that’s how birth should be.

In the meantime… here is my Down Syndrome Walk schedule ๐Ÿ™‚ I already performed in Salt Lake City… and New York City… you were either there or you missed them. Either way you can see photos of the SLC event on my Facebook Fan Page and you can see NYC photos there as well. This weekend I head to Fox Cities, Wisconsin and the following week I will be in the Boston, Massachusetts area.

We have created Team Signing Time for each of the events this year so all of you Signing Time Families can hang out, get freebies and walk together.

  2. We keep hoping you’ll make it down here to Austin, TX (or really, anywhere in Texas … we’ll take San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, or Ft. Worth … we don’t mind driving!) someday soon.

My 3-year-old speech-delayed twins adore all of you and think of you as personal friends! My son even asks for “Rachel in the red shirt” because he really loves those early volumes! ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Congratulations on all the new babies in your family! I love this line, Rachel:
“I was able to be at all of the births I was scheduled to be atโ€ฆ and likewise I was not at the births I was not expected to be atโ€ฆ thatโ€™s how birth should be.”
Yup, I agree. ๐Ÿ™‚ And love the photo with the Darth Vader Angels.

  5. Hello, Rachel! I’m a huge fan and get very excited to receive new emails when you update your blog! Congratulations to all the new babies in your life! I actually work at a child development lab school with infants whom I teach sign language to! I begin with children when they are 6 weeks old and continue with them until they turn 4 years old, and I constantly teach them Sign Language! You are my inspiration and I love showing the children your videos. The children sign “more” and get excited to learn signs in a new way. (They especially love signing the “Silly Pizza Song!) I have actually held several seminars to parents, co-workers, and various teachers in Knoxville and the state of Tennessee about Sign Language and the importance and benefits of teaching signs to children, and it was a great help using some of the resources on the Signing Time website. I just wanted to say thank you for everything you do and you are a great role model to look up to. Keep up the great work!

Tiffani, well then I must apologize for my lack of bloggy-ness lately. I’ve been pretty distracted… that’s all I’m saying;) Keep reading! Are you in the Signing Time Academy? If you are holding seminars about the importance of Sign Language you might want to consider it: www.signingtime.com/academy

  6. Congrats on all of the newest additions to your family! Hoping that you’ll be in Ohio sometime soon. My son loves your DVD’s. ๐Ÿ™‚

Ohio would be great! Keep an eye out for events and conferences and then suggest they have me come. That’s how we do it around here.

  7. PLEASE come to Texas! We live in Houston, but we would also drive to Austin, San Antonio or Dallas to sing and sign with you! Our younger son is 9 and has Down syndrome. We have been watching Signing Time with him for a long time. Even though his speech is MUCH improved, he will sign a word or phrase that he doesn’t have a verbal word for. I can’t tell you what a difference that has made for him…greatly reduces his frustration. He has so much to say and, thanks to you, he has a way to communicate all of that.

Looks like you three Texans ought to get in touch and put something together. One of my very first events was in Houston with the public television station there… hmmm

  9. How do we get you to come to our Buddy Walk? I know it is too late for this year – but, we’d love to have you here in Alabama. Plus, we are close to Georgia, so you can visit Baby Carter.

As you know from all my comments, my little girl LOVES ST and loves to do everything all of you do on the DVDs. She picks up new signs so quickly and is getting better at being more specific with them. Her daycare class has also started to share her DVDs with the other kids because she loves them so much and they do now, too. We send a DVD to go with their weekly theme. This week it is colors and they are all learning along with my daughter! Thanks for all you’ve done to help her communicate with us at this early age!

  10. I’ve been browsing on-line more than 3 hours today, but I by no means found any fascinating article like yours. It is beautiful worth enough for me. In my opinion, if all web owners and bloggers made just right content as you probably did, the net can be a lot more useful than ever before.
