Potty Training with Rachel and Signing Time!
Signing Time launched a decade ago and within months we started getting requests to make a potty training DVD. The requests for potty training help have never slowed down. I admit, I resisted it. I kept telling my sister Emilie, “That is not MY job!” and “There are a few signs I won’t be teaching… ever!” Heh heh. Well, the good news is when I resist something it usually only takes about 10 years to break through to my good senses. (That’s for you Rebecca)
On Thursday we launched Potty Time! and we did a good deed by purchasing that domain name because I won’t even say what used to be on it… (not kid friendly, enough said) so if you use WOT or something similar to keep your internet use safe, you might find that our site has a poor reputation there, your positive rating will help. You know me, just cleaning up the internet as I go!

So, yes, we now offer potty training powered by Signing Time! and it’s TOTALLY appropriate, and doesn’t confine potty training to just what happens in the bathroom. I teach your children that their bodies are amazing and that it’s important to listen to their bodies. I mean, when your body tells you that you are hungry you go get something to eat. So, when your body tells you that you need to use the potty, it’s pretty simple you stop what you are doing and go use the potty.
Pick up Potty Time at www.pottytime.com there is an introductory sale that ends tonight, SUNDAY November 6, 2011. So don’t wait!
The signs you will learn are: Grow – Love – I Love You (ILY) – Help – Amazing – Body – Eat – Drink – Sleep – Wake Up – Diaper – Potty – Wipe/Clean – Flush – Wash Hands – All Done/Finished – Water – Soap – Stop – Go – Underwear – Accident – Try – Careful – Celebrate (*there is a special feature for parents where we cover Poop and Pee and I know some of you will buy it just to see me teach that! Though the “PSA” about not using too much toilet paper is pretty classic, just because I know how many takes were needed to say it without getting the giggles.)
Don’t miss the Potty Time app for Android devices. You’ll get a kick out of it, I promise. You have no clue how many of my girl friends have already messaged me to let me know that I keep calling them to congratulate them on their toileting success. (iPod app is coming soon)

We had a lot of fun making Potty Time and I have to say that I get frustrated sometimes because I work really hard on these shows and for some reason, all you see in the end product is the very “zipped up”, Signing Time Rachel in her television box. When the editing process was over I again sat there scratching my head wondering why I did all of that crazy stuff when we were filming… the crazy, fun stuff that no one would ever see. So, I pulled rank;) and said, “I want a special feature!!” It also helps that I am married to one of the editors. Here are the outtakes and some of my “finest” moments~

I have a 3 year old who is already asking me for the “potty Signing Time” video & a 4 year old with special needs who loves signing, so I think this video will be big in our house! Thanks so much & thank you for giving me the opportunity to be a BST Instructor!

I wish this new product great success; I bought it to give to a friend who I first introduced Signing Time to years ago.
How many of us can say that something we resisted for 10 years we finally gave a try? You are amazing!

As a mom of a 3 yr old with Down Syndrome, I am totally thankful. Potty training seems like it will be a little easier now. Our Jillie loves your dvds! She even took them to the hospital recently when she had two types of pneumonia. Thanks for reconsidering “Potty Time”

Rachel, your story, strength and talent are all inspiring! I just ordered my potty time video (along with some others!). My son is 23 Months and we’ve been signing with your DVDs for over a year now…. His vocabulary is phenomenal, and when his pronunciation isn’t working for me, I ask him to ‘sign it’. You have helped us create an incredible bond, and a very smart child…. Thanks to BST, I’m not afraid of the ‘terrible twos’ – because we can COMMUNICATE! Thank you so much! And, we look forward to “potty time”!! THANK YOU! Keep up the GREAT work!

Rachel,
I’m not sure how I should go about this but I can’t figure out another way to contact you. I am an interpreting student at SLCC and am doing a paper on mainstream education for deaf students. I was wondering if it were possible for me to ask you a few questions about your experience sending your daughter to a mainstream school. Please let me know if you would be willing to help me out and how you’d prefer we do that. (email is just fine for me). Thanks!

This is wonderful!!! I only wish that you really would have done it ten years ago. I just finally finished potty training my little girl. It was a 6 year struggle. She has loved all your videos. This will be so good for so many people. I’m going to purchase this video still to add to her collection. I can’t wait to see it and I know that my daughter will love it! Thanks for your videos they have changed our life!! Your videos is how my daughter has learned to sign as it is her only way to communicate. You ans your staff are the best!!!

We just bought your PottyTime DVD on BabySteals on 11/18 since I was planning on potty training our 3-yr old son over his Thanksgiving break from preschool this past week. (I was sad we missed the potty watch package, but was glad I didn’t miss out on the DVD at least!) We started on Monday the 21st and the DVD came on Tuesday. It was the perfect tool to help with potty training. He LOVES the DVD – we have watched it so many times already and have so much fun singing the songs and signing. His 11-month old sister enjoys it too – she’s always dancing along to the music.
Thank you so much for making such a helpful potty training aide! We’ve always loved your DVD’s and I’ve already made a request to the grandparents for more of them as Christmas gifts and my daughter’s b-day coming up!
Keep up the great work!
I’m always telling my friends about BST! We’re some of your biggest fans!!!

I am so glad that you did this! We had a lot of stress in the family when DS was 1-2 years old, so we didn’t worry about potty training right away. But now he’s 4 and still resisting. He loves Rachel and Signing Time, so I hope this might help. We’ve already tried Elmo…

Hi, I was not sure where to write. but just wanted to let you know that my family and I absolutely love the show. We are bilangual at home. and I was noticing that my son by 2 yrs old was not speaking as much, or making as many sounds as the other kids. Anyway. when he watchers your show besides doing the sign language he also repeats all the words you say. I am not sure if its because your voice is clear. but it really has been a blessing. the show come on everyday at 8:30 PM he watches it before he goes to sleep. and I have noticed a HUGE improvement on him specially in his talking. You are very talented and blessed in what you do. Thanks for all.

I can’t tell you how excited I am or how grateful. THANK YOU! Signing time has been there for my now 5 year old, and now my littlest guys are enjoying it too. My 17 month old is ready to start potty training and he LOVES signing time, so this is wonderful news. We’ve purchased about 6 DVDs and I’m going to purchase a set for the preschool I oversee. Thanks again Rachel. God Bless you and your beautiful family.

We LOVE signing time. My 3 year old Adaria is almost completely potty trained and we’re getting your dvd about going potty for both her and our 16 month old Dorian. He LOVES signing time. He is SUPER verbal and asks for “baby!” all the time, pointing to your dvd’s! The other day he grabbed a cup off the counter, looked inside, said, “all gone” and then brought it to me to put in the dishwasher. SO smart! It helps that he has learned so many signs and increased his vocabulary so that he can communicate any time he wants. FABULOUS! keep up the GREAT work~! God bless you!

Rachel and the Signing Time Staff!
This is a long overdue thank you, but better late than never! Our daughter, Addie, who is 5 and a half and born with CP, is now potty trained and we owe so much to you! We bought the DVD and potty watch in December, and vowed to start the new year off by giving potty training another try with her and I’m happy to report we have been accident free since the end of the first week of January! She LOVES watching the DVD and the watch helped her and us stay on track with friendly reminders! She was a signing time fan already, we’ve done signing times since she was 6 months old, so when she was able to be encouraged by you Rachel with all of the creative ways on the DVD, she made the choice to listen to her body! Thanks again for all that you all do, you are truly life changers and are a true inspiration to so many!! THANK YOU!
